(This blog post is brought to you by Guest Blogger, Guider Linda!)
Advice from experienced Guiders tells us the third year Guides (girls in Grade 6) need enhanced responsibility, more challenging projects and to get away on their own sometimes.
This spirit was alive and well at Camp Kana’da on the October 5-6 weekend. Under sunny skies, third year Guides from 1st and 2nd Dartmouth (11 girls total) had a sleepover in the residence and on Saturday, rebuilt one of the fire pits using bricks and shovels. They also made crafts, did camp chores, and preparations for a Sunday day camp involving all the girls in their two units. (37 girls) Day camp activities ranged from knots to crafts, a hike, songs and games. This project was designed partly to kick off the Lady Baden Powell Challenge for our senior Guides, and also to help introduce new leaders and volunteers into our wise, wonderful and wacky Guiding ways.
We exchanged greetings with a Lady Baden Powell group from Lawrencetown who were tenting. Their service project was to do some bushwhacking – armed with gloves and clippers they tried to re-clear the hiking trail (the one that heads up from behind the pretty painted lats). The trail was pretty boggy in parts and quite overgrown, but they made some improvements there! (It could use some professional help too though).
Our Lady B-P group is looking forward to a secret service project in the spring and helping girls enjoy their Guiding experience over the winter!
